Board Report
After a three year COVID hiatus the Board met on May 17.
The board accepted with regret the resignation of Glenn Morris who has been a Board trustee since 2001; his contribution will be missed.
The Board received and approved the financial report for 2022. Operating expenses for 2022 were $11,972.04; net income for 2022 was $14,118.77; these amounts do not include monies that must be deposited in the Care and Maintenance Fund. A financial statement is included with this mailing.
The Cemetery continues to rely on donations to supplement income from other sources (lot sales and investment income). The Board recognizes the importance of these donations and extends a sincere thank you to all those who have supported the Cemetery over the past years.
Lot Price Increase
The Board approved an increase in the price of interment rights that will come into effect on July 1, 2023. The new rates are as follows:
- Interment rights – single lot (3 ft. x 10 ft.) $900.00
- Interment rights – cremation lot (3 ft. x 3 ft.) $450.00
Forty percent of the price of each lot is deposited in the Care and Maintenance Fund.
A single lot (3 ft. x 10 ft.) may be used for one full burial and three cremation burials or four cremation burials.
Cemetery Sign
Have you seen our new cemetery sign? It’s quite impressive. A big thank you to Leeder Monuments for completing the engraving of the sign in 2022.
Scattering Area and Memorial Bench
A scattering area will be established in the Cemetery this summer. We are exploring memorialization options.
The scattering area will include a new bench in memory of Carroll and Edith Berry who served the Cemetery for over fifty years. Anyone wishing to donate to the cost of this bench may do so with the enclosed envelope or on the cemetery website (www.lilliescemetery.ca).
Columbarium
With the continuing trend to cremations over full burials the Board is considering the installation of a small columbarium (sixteen niches) and will proceed with this project if there is sufficient interest. Please contact the Cemetery for details.
Volunteers Needed
Lillies Cemetery is managed by the Baptist Cemetery Board, a volunteer group. Currently two Board members, the secretary-treasurer and the cemetery caretaker handle the day-to-day operation of the Cemetery. Both individuals are looking forward to the day when they can pass their duties to new energetic volunteers. These are part-time jobs with some remuneration. Anyone who is interested in these positions or in becoming a board member please contact the secretary-treasurer.
